This week, America turns 250.

250 years of building, leading, failing, rising, and becoming. As I reflect on that journey, one truth keeps surfacing, the same truth that became my personal purpose statement:
“It’s not about perfection. It’s about authenticity. Just be you.”

The leaders who shaped this nation weren’t perfect. They were human, full of contradictions, doubts, and blind spots. What made them extraordinary wasn’t flawlessness. It was conviction. Courage. And the willingness to show up as themselves in service of something bigger.

In 25 years of developing and coaching leaders, the most powerful thing I’ve witnessed isn’t someone mastering a competency framework or nailing a leadership model. It’s the moment a leader stops performing and starts leading from who they actually are.
The ones who admit what they don’t know.
The ones who show up as a human being, not just a title.
The ones who make people feel seen because they’re not hiding behind a role.

Authenticity isn’t a soft skill. It’s a leadership superpower. And it’s the one thing you can’t fake, teach from a framework, or manufacture in a workshop.
It has to come from you.

Happy 250th, America. Here’s to every leader in every organization, every community, and every home who has the courage to just be themselves.
That’s the leadership this country was built on.
